About Groundwork

Founded in the early 1990s by Brian Foster and Ernie Sesskin, Groundwork was born from a shared passion for architecture, antiques, and timeless interior design. What began as a collection of decorative tabletop and wall pieces gradually evolved into a full furniture studio dedicated to craftsmanship, character, and enduring quality.

At a time when much of the industry shifted toward mass-produced imports, Groundwork chose a different path, partnering with local artisans and suppliers throughout southeastern Pennsylvania. By investing in regional craftspeople and traditional methods, they built a collaborative network of skilled makers whose expertise shaped the identity of every piece.

Over the years, that network evolved into a trusted workshop of woodworkers, metal fabricators, finishers and artisans united by a commitment to thoughtful design and exceptional workmanship. Today, Groundwork continues to create furniture that feels collected rather than manufactured — pieces designed to bring warmth, substance, and permanence to the spaces they inhabit.
